Pistoia Mountain Tourism Areas

The mountains surrounding Pistoia ( Tuscany ) are covered with small villages renowned for both summer and winter tourism.

Pistoia is surrounded from northwest to northeast by the apennine mountains.

To get to the Pistoia mountain you get onto the regional road 66, immediately out of the city: this road brings you up in the middle of the lower mountains of Pistoia in less than 30 minutes.

Once you pass the village of Le Piastre you enter the Reno valley.

After few kilometers you'll be out of this valley and will pass through the other lower valleys of Pistoia mountains. You'll find the villages of Pontepetri, Campo Tizzoro and Bardalone before reaching the Oppio pass.

This is a rather low pass but it has an amazing panorama towards Abetone: in sunny days you get the view of the entire Limestre valley which spans from the oppio pass to San Marcello Pistoiese.

The road proceeds down the Limestre valley until you reach La Lima: to reach the higher area of Pistoia mountains here you steer right towards Abetone.

Driving up into Sestaione valley in 20 - 30 minutes you reach the Abetone ski resort.

Now you have an idea of how villages and valleys are positioned in the area.

Lower valleys range from 500 m.s.l. to 700 m.s.l. at their bottoms.

The Reno valley is a flat valley that acts like the main entrance to the beauty of Pistoia mountains.
